How to Clean Your Keyboard: A Step-by-Step Guide

Your keyboard is one of the most used devices in your home or office. It’s also one of the dirtiest. Over time, dust, food particles, and other debris can build up on your keyboard, making it difficult to type and increasing the risk of infection.

To keep your keyboard clean and working properly, it’s important to clean it regularly. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps on how to clean your keyboard, both for a quick surface clean and a more thorough deep clean.

Quick Surface Clean

For a quick surface clean, simply unplug your keyboard and use a microfiber cloth to wipe away any dust or debris. You can also use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to clean between the keys.

Deep Clean

For a more thorough deep clean, you’ll need to remove the keys from your keyboard. This may be difficult or impossible for some keyboards, such as laptop keyboards. If you can’t remove the keys, you can still clean the keyboard by following the steps below, but you won’t be able to get into all of the nooks and crannies.

  1. Unplug your keyboard and turn it upside down.
  2. Use a compressed air canister to blow out any dust or debris from the keyboard.
  3. Use a toothpick or other small, pointed object to remove any food particles or other debris that is stuck between the keys.
  4. Mix a solution of one part water and one part vinegar in a spray bottle.
  5. Spray the solution onto a microfiber cloth and wipe down the keyboard.
  6. Let the keyboard dry completely before putting it back together.

Here are some additional tips for cleaning your keyboard:

  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage your keyboard.
  • If you have a mechanical keyboard, be sure to consult the manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning it.
  • Clean your keyboard regularly to prevent dirt and debris from building up.

By following these simple steps, you can keep your keyboard clean and working properly for years to come.
